When I was studying and playing “Love Your Love the Most,” I noticed how weird it felt for me to sing about loving college football games, NASCAR, small mouth bass and my truck (I don’t drive a truck), etc., and it made me think that while I don’t fit the exact archetype of the “country” guy, that there’s another kind of country music fan out there… like myself. So I wrote a song about being a modern, sensitive kind of guy who loves and supports his wife, who is a good listener most of the time, but still needs to get rowdy to recharge.
Maybe it’s a bit too literal. The chorus starts “I’m a modern guy,” but then again, maybe that lack of metaphor allows sincerity to seep through. I don’t know. The arrangement is still kind of loose (especially since it’s just me and a guitar), but I feel like it’s close. What do y’all think?

October 8, 2009What a weird song! Ha. I think there are some good parts in it, and I still like the idea, but I don’t know about this as it is… maybe it was just the recording, maybe the arrangement, maybe the melody, I don’t know. Something (or more than one thing) isn’t working for me, though.

October 30, 2009Hey George, I think the lyrics & the overall melody of this song are lovely, totally relate-able, and would be fun to singalong with, the part that feels a little off is the drawn out way of saying your a modern guy, particularly the word “guy”. It feels like it should be more simple & less a proclamation, like the modern part should be shorter & sensitive might be a bit more drawn out, but still not too grandiose. Its hard to describe in words, but I thought I would try. I like the lyrics of this though. I think it could be great.

October 30, 2009Thanks, Allison! I agree. I think I tried to push it too far on the chorus melody and it came out as unnatural feeling. And maybe “sensitive” isn’t the right lyric. Definitely the right meaning, but maybe not the right word. Thanks for the critique!
